A County Durham cookware store will donate its carrier bag charge to the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
ProCook based at Dalton Park, County Durham, has already handed over more than £210 to the charity.
The 5p bag levy came into force in England on October 5 and Procook will pass on all of its charges from its customers.
Daniel O’Neill, managing director and founder of ProCook said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the GNAAS. Their dedication is an inspiration and we are proud to associate ourselves with such a worthy cause. We hope our support helps make a difference to the GNAAS, and the communities which it serves so well.”
Last year in the UK around 8.3 billion plastic bags were used, according to the waste charity Wrap.
Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS said: “It can be a source of reassurance for shoppers that the money they pay for carrier bags will be going to a life-saving charity which will bring a direct benefit to them and their neighbourhoods. We want to thank ProCook for choosing the region’s air ambulance to support.”
