Sellafield workers raise £4,300 for air ambulance

WORKERS on Sellafield Ltd’s graduate scheme have handed over a £4,300 donation to the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). A group of 20 laced up their boots to take on a walk from the firm’s headquarters in Seascale to its Chapel Bank office in Workington. Along the 20-mile route, they made pit-stops with donation buckets at Sellafield’s offsite offices in West Lakes Science Park and Whitehaven. Nick Logan, one of those taking part, said: “To celebrate coming to the end of our time on the Sellafield Ltd graduate scheme, we decided to complete one last project together as graduates while supporting a vital local cause – the Great North Air Ambulance Service. “As an integral part of the local community we recognise the need to help others and give something back to the area – it is our responsibility to create a sustainable legacy from the resources and investment at Sellafield.” The group also held a charity meal which celebrated the end of their time on the scheme and raised more funds for GNAAS who are a charity reliant on public donations. Grahame Pickering MBE, chief executive at GNAAS, said: “We’d like to send a huge thank you to the graduates for thinking of us.

Grahame Pickering MBE, chief executive at GNAAS, said: “We’d like to send a huge thank you to the graduates for thinking of us. Our aircraft, the Pride of Cumbria, is absolutely reliant on public donations, so it is this kind of gesture which keeps the aircraft flying throughout the region.

“We are immensely grateful for the support of Sellafield and hope to work more with them in future fundraising activities.”
