Three women have bravely had their locks chopped off all in the name of charity.

Julie Lowther, Nicola Charnley and Amanda Bond, from Sedbergh, raised £4,800 which will be donated to the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), Blood Bikes and St John’s Hospice.

The women also gave their hair to the Little Princess Trust – a charity that makes wigs for young cancer patients.

Ms Lowther said: “The head shave was an idea that came about when we decided to do a fundraiser in September. We hoped that it would create the wow factor and raise lots of money.”

Representatives from each charity were handed a cheque for more than £1,600 at a recent presentation. Volunteer, Bruce Evans, attended on the GNAAS’ behalf.

Mr Evans said: “It was a pleasure to meet these inspirational ladies and accept the money raised. I’d like to say a huge thank you from the whole GNAAS team.”
