Friends of a South Tyneside dad-to-be who died tragically after a freak sunbed accident have raised £1,000 for charity in his honour.
Grant Adams fell into an upright sunbed at his home in South Shields, in June last year.
The 17-year-old’s jugular vein was pierced by a glass tube in the fall and medics from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) tried desperately to save him. He was flown to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary in a critical condition but he sadly passed away from his injuries.
Only weeks later, his baby daughter Rhkiya-Mae was born on August 15.
Friends hosted two rave events at Ocean Road Community Centre in South Shields to raise funds in memory of Grant who was a member of North East Combinations, a DJ-ing and MC-ing group.
Recently, a cheque for £1,000 was handed over to the air ambulance.
Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Grant’s friends and family for their support to the charity. We are truly grateful for their selfless efforts to raise funds while remembering someone close to their heart.”
