A teenager will tackle the Great North Run to thank the charity that rescued his sister after a horse accident.
Rob Dennison, 19, will return to his hometown of Newcastle to complete the half marathon on Sunday, which is also his birthday.
Rob’s sister, Alice Dennison, was airlifted to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) after she fell from her horse and broke her femur in 2008. She was treated by the doctor-led crew and flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Rob, who studies at the University of Oxford, said: “I’m so grateful to GNAAS who treated Alice brilliantly. Thankfully she has made a full recovery.
“The charity did a fantastic job to ensure her safety and comfort and we cannot commend them enough. They deserve every penny they get.”
Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Rob for supporting us and wish him the best of luck for the run. All of the funds raised by our runners will be used to help save lives in the region.”
Rob has so far raised £355 for GNAAS!
