A cyclist suffered serious chest injuries after coming off his bike at Askrigg in Wensleydale yesterday (June 10). The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the scene at 5:10pm. The GNAAS team worked alongside a road crew from Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assess and treat the 64-year-old man. The patient was given strong painkillers and flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The GNAAS team worked alongside a road crew from Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assess and treat the 64-year-old man.
The patient was given strong painkillers and flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The flight took 15 minutes – saving around an hour when compared to the road journey – and the patient arrived in a stable condition.
