Dear supporter,

Yesterday afternoon we reported that the Guardian of the North was sat motionless on the helipad at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

A fault had been discovered in one of the aircraft’s two engines. A replacement engine and technicians this morning travelled to the site to inspect the aircraft, with the intention of fitting the new engine.

However, the experts found that the problem was not as serious as first feared – it was a relatively minor issue with an air pipe – and were able to make the necessary repairs there and then.

After rigorous testing on the helipad, the aircraft was able to take off and fly back to its home at Durham Tees Valley Airport.

Thank you for all your concern, and special thanks to those people who made a donation after hearing the story. There will still be a cost involved in the repair – everything associated with a helicopter comes at a price unfortunately – but it is unlikely to be anywhere near as expensive as we had initially expected.

Best wishes,
